Japanese telecoms giant, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT), has announced the formation of a new AI company, NTT AI-CIX, Inc. The company aims to drive AI innovation and cross-industry transformation.

To stay ahead in AI innovation, NTT will utilize AI-CIX to enhance its development of chained AI, which integrates AI systems across various industries. The new company aims to streamline supply chains and will serve as a comprehensive solution for consulting and product development.

AI-CIX is set to launch on August 26, under the leadership of President and CEO, Ippei Shaka.

Chained AI for Inter-Industry Business Development

Shaka emphasized that by establishing a company capable of handling everything from research and development (R&D) to service provision, they have created a new structure designed to generate value quickly amidst the rapid changes in AI. 

Shaka noted that the establishment of the company aims to advance the deployment of chained AI, explaining that while they had been working on linking digital twins within individual businesses, applying chained AI across various industries would accelerate inter-industry business development.

A major focus involves optimizing supply chains in the retail and distribution sectors. NTT has signed a collaboration agreement with Trial Holdings to jointly enhance supply chain management (SCM). By merging Trial Holdings’ retail industry insights and data with NTT’s data science expertise, the partnership aims to boost store efficiency, logistics, and customer value.

The project is also targeting the integration of data from manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers to streamline SCM across diverse distribution networks and product categories.
