Japanese telecoms and internet corporation SoftBank, a subsidiary of SoftBank Group Corp., announced that it is developing an Embedded Subscriber Identity Module (“eSIM”) Platform as part of its efforts to promote Internet of Things (“IoT”) solutions. The platform, which is scheduled to start operating in 2017, enables remote eSIM provisioning by connecting to carrier communication networks with the required profiles.

US tech giants Apple have seen a ban prohibiting the company from selling its iPhone 6 phones in China overturned following a legal hearing. A Chinese court ruled in its favor in a patent dispute between the Californian based company and a domestic phone-maker. The legal row began in May last year, when a Beijing based patent regulator took the decision to order Apple’s Chinese subsidiary and local retailer Zoom-Flight to immediately stop selling iPhones after Shenzhen Baili Marketing Services lodged an official complaint with the regulatory authority.

South Korean car manufacturers Hyundai Motor Co have outlined plans to start developing its first dedicated architecture for electric vehicles in a clear attempt to challenge businesses like Tesla in what is a growing market sector for automakers. With that trend likely to continue Hyundai is expected to introduce a number of new products to the electric vehicle industry.

Huawei signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 20 with MetaSystem, a world leader in the UBI (usage-based insurance) market at CeBIT 2017 in Hannover, Germany. The signing will see Huawei work with MetaSystem Italy to develop connected car applications and provide a variety of end-to-end UBI solutions for the industry.

Samsung unveiled its hotly anticipated Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones at an event in New York on Wednesday, March 29. The phones have displays larger than the previous flagship Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge and feature ‘Infinity Display’ screens that curve and flow onto the sides. In addition, Samsung has removed the home button entirely.

South Korean conglomerate Samsung have revealed that its latest flagship device the Galaxy S8 will contain its new AI-powered virtual assistant ‘Bixby’ – which is an indicative message of its intent to challenge its rivals which include Apple and Amazon. In a statement issued by Samsung’s EVP and head of R&D, InJong Rhee out months of speculation to bed by confirming that the Galaxy S8 will be equipped with a new digital voice assistant ‘Bixby’. Analysts have claimed that its shows the organization are placing a significant emphasis on AI. (Artificial Intelligence)

For some time now there have been rumors that South Korean technology giant Samsung is working on the world’s first foldable smartphone. So far, there has been no evidence to clarify the rumors, until a report from Korean news site ETNews said Samsung could finally be unveiling a prototype model later this year.
