Infrastructure Advancement

The vBSC is a virtualized version of the traditional Base Station Controller, a crucial component that manages and controls IoT and critical communication over GSM networks. By running as software on virtualized hardware, rather than a physical piece of equipment, the vBSC offers more flexibility and scalability in managing and controlling networks.

This milestone deployment of vBSC represents a significant advancement in telecommunications infrastructure, providing new opportunities for network modernization and seamless migration to virtualized network functions across all generations of mobile technology. Dialog Axiata is the first customer to leverage this technology, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and reduce dependency on proprietary hardware, ultimately reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Operational Savings

The deployment of vBSC also offers operational savings in terms of power and space compared to traditional hardware, leading to substantial cost savings, and improved environmental sustainability. This technology presents an opportunity for operators worldwide to embrace virtualization, extend the life cycle of critical communications over GSM, enhance operational efficiency, and realize significant savings. As the telecommunications industry evolves, the deployment of vBSC sets a new benchmark for modernization efforts and highlights its relevance as a pivotal advancement in the industry.

Dialog Axiata's successful implementation of Ericsson's vBSC demonstrates its commitment to technological advancements, sustainable innovation, and significant cost savings in the telecommunications sector. Ranga Kariyawasam, Group Chief Technology Officer at Dialog Axiata PLC, emphasized the company's role as a trailblazer in the global telecom landscape and its dedication to delivering next-generation, cost-effective network solutions.

David Hägerbro, Head of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, highlighted the transformative impact of Ericsson's virtual Base Station Controller deployment on the telecommunications industry, emphasizing that the integration is a cost-effective solution set to modernize networks and reduce operating expenses.

Notably, Ericsson has been a key player in Sri Lanka for over 70 years, contributing to the rollout of every generation of mobile communication in the country.
