SoftBank Corp. and Nokia Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on advanced communication technologies.

The agreement focuses on creating an AI-powered communication system, including AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network) and 6G technology. The partnership will utilize Nokia's Cloud RAN platform to develop AI-RAN and will involve field testing with centimeter waves, anticipated for future 6G applications.

The next-generation communication system, powered by AI-RAN and 6G, is set to transform societies and economies by offering faster, more flexible connectivity over wider ranges. This breakthrough could facilitate the creation of smart cities, enhance industrial automation, and enable new business models.

According to the agreement, SoftBank will leverage its extensive experience as a network operator, while Nokia will bring its global expertise in network technologies to jointly advance 6G network research and development (R&D). The MoU aims to create dynamic, high-speed, and reliable communication networks that support the evolution of a digital society.

Through this joint project, SoftBank aims to enhance its expertise in applying AI-RAN and 6G to tackle the challenges of a digital society, thereby contributing to the progress of the telecommunications industry.
