Huawei and Singapore mobile operator, StarHub, have demonstrated what they say is the world's fastest indoor mobile network coverage, 1Gpbs, using a single small cell base station no bigger than a ream of A4 paper.
This speed was achieved by using a total of 55MHz of spectrum across the 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 2600MHz bands combined with 256 quadrature amplitude modulation and distributed multiple input multiple output.
This demonstration follows StarHub's deployment of Huawei's small cell as part of its 4G LTE-Advanced heterogeneous network upgrade at Marina Bay last year to boost indoor network capacity and speeds for customers. Commercial trials are continuing and StarHub says it aims to deploy the technology as a commercial service when supported phone models reach Singapore's shores.
