Leading Internet Exchange AMS-IX proudly announced that AMS-IX Bangkok is live and operational. They were joined by HGC Global Communications Limited (HGC), a full-service ICT service provider and network operator with extensive global coverage, and International Gateway Company Limited (IGC), a neutral regional telecommunications and network service provider.
The new Internet Exchange will aid in the expansion of the Internet by successfully localizing traffic, accelerating company digitization and fostering community. The AMS-IX Bangkok will provide improved connection, lower latency, better redundancy and cheaper operating costs for networks connected to it.
Bangkok is ideally situated in the center of Southeast Asia, making it an excellent location as a gateway to the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) and a global hub for Internet traffic exchange. It is a key place for Internet corporations to exchange Internet traffic, in addition to Singapore and Hong Kong. Southeast Asia's over 250 million internet users can now benefit from an improved online experience.
According to the terms of the agreement, IGC will supply the IX infrastructure, network and operation in Bangkok. Meanwhile, HGC will act as AMS-IX Bangkok's marketing and commercial partner. Technical assistance will be provided, and the exchange's operational management is under the control of AMS-IX, which also has competence in peering and network monitoring.
International Partnership Director of AMS-IX Onno Bos stated, “It is great to announce yet another successful deployment of an AMS-IX Internet Exchange in Asia with our partner HGC. This new IX will have a significant effect on the Internet ecosystem as it will make it easier and more cost-effective to let international CDNs connect to local eyeballs.”
Further, the Greater Mekong Subregion of HGC Vice President Chirawat Mahawat said that they are proud of the live AMS-IX Bangkok event as an enhancement of the HGC EdgeX brand for the OTT ecosystem. He assured, “We believe the exchange, with initial members on board, will boost content exchanging, especially those who look for the eyeballs coverage.”
Meanwhile, Pichit Satapattayanont, the CEO of IGC, further elaborated that the AMS-IX exchange will definitely encourage the growth of the digital economy ecosystem. “With our neutral positioning, we are welcome to support both content and telco players to be part of this growth,” he concluded .
