2degrees, one of the leading telcos in New Zealand, has successfully rolled out its next-generation 5G technology in five more areas in the country: Nelson, Oamaru, Greymouth, Gore and Masterton.
Currently, the company reaches 15 areas with its 5G coverage, with plans to reach 50 towns by the middle of 2024.
“We continue to roll out 5G at pace. The access to longer-term 3.5 GHz spectrum rights allocated by the government this year, and the certainty this has provided is supporting continued development of New Zealand’s world-class mobile networks and means we can invest with confidence,” commented Mark Callander, CEO of 2degrees.
Mr. Callander also pointed out that 2degrees’ 5G coverage in the three main centers, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, is also advanced and has a wider reach among the main telcos in the country.
In August, the company also observed a two-year peak on inbound roaming, which is twice the number of visitors from the previous year. This can be attributed to more tourists and visitors coming to New Zealand for the World Cup.
