Enterprises are seeing a growing cloud ecosystem that now includes telecoms and networking providers offering application programming interface (API) services, container integration/consulting, and artificial intelligence (AI) network integrations.
Telecommunications and networking providers are moving up the cloud stack by modernizing infrastructure, forming cloud platform partnerships, and launching new API programs.

New Digitalization Opportunities
According to GlobalData, they are focusing on new digitalization opportunities such as providing API services to customers and partners, implementing Kubernetes container orchestration, offering generative AI (GenAI) integrations and consulting, and supporting emerging development and operations (DevOps) solutions such as modern visibility/observability.
Charlotte Dunlap, Research Director of Enterprise Technology and Services at GlobalData, explained, “Telcos and network providers are eager to establish a stronger presence in the cloud ecosystem of technology and service providers. These global giants are expanding traditional networks to support new AI economies needed for modern application integrations and intelligent workflow automations, while also catering to new audiences lacking networking skills.”
New API programs released recently have struggled to attract a wide enterprise developer community unfamiliar with network integrations. However, initiatives like CAMARA and Open Gateway are addressing these challenges.
Shaping the Enterprise Business Ecosystem
Dunlap added, “In the future, telcos will enhance their digital transformation services by partnering with cloud and platform providers to assist customers with Kubernetes container orchestration. They see the opportunity to enter the DevOps space, recognizing customers' lack of expertise in emerging technologies like intelligent automation, security, artificial intelligence for IT operations (AIOps), and observability, as well as their uncertainty about where to start with new technologies like GenAI.”
“GenAI is a prime example of an easy way to launch platform services, so copilots and agentic AI will be the main focus for investment and product development for telco/networking players. The ecosystem for enterprise business transformations has significantly expanded to include telcos, networking companies, service providers/ communication service providers (SPs/CSPs), global system integrators (GSIs), and cloud providers,” Dunlap concluded.
