Malaysia’s fixed communication services revenue is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.8%, rising from USD 1.9 billion in 2024 to USD 2.1 billion by 2029.

This growth will be fueled by increasing demand for fixed broadband, particularly fiber-optic services, while traditional fixed voice services continue to decline as users shift to mobile and over-the-top (OTT) communication platforms.

GlobalData’s findings indicate that revenue from fixed voice services will contract at a CAGR of 8.9% over the forecast period, driven by the ongoing transition from landline telephony to mobile and OTT-based services. This trend is also contributing to a drop in voice service average revenue per user (ARPU).

In contrast, fixed broadband service revenue is set to expand at a CAGR of 4.4% between 2024 and 2029, largely due to the growing adoption of higher-value fiber-optic broadband (FTTH/B).

The surge in fiber adoption is attributed to rising demand for high-speed internet and ongoing efforts by both the government and telecom providers to enhance fiber infrastructure.

Telekom Malaysia is expected to remain the market leader in both fixed voice and broadband services. The company’s strong presence in the fiber-optic broadband segment and its continued network expansion efforts contribute to its leading position.

Under the 12th Malaysia Plan, Telekom Malaysia, in collaboration with the government, plans to roll out 4,370 fiber-optic network hubs by the end of 2025, with a focus on rural areas. This initiative aims to enhance digital connectivity and support economic development across Malaysia.
