Nokia has announced that CAMGSM PLC, also known as Cellcard, will upgrade its fiber network from GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) to XGS-PON (10 Gigabit Symmetrical PON) using Nokia's Lightspan and Altiplano broadband solutions.

This upgrade will enhance user experiences and provide internet speeds of up to 10 Gbps to customers. It will also help Cellcard improve its competitive edge and enhance the reliability, flexibility, and scalability of its fiber network to meet changing customer needs.

Creating a Future-Ready Network

As part of the agreement, Cellcard will implement Nokia's Lightspan optical line terminals (OLTs) and Altiplano Access Controller in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and other major cities in the region. The Altiplano Access Controller offers a cloud-native platform with network management and SDN (software-defined networking) control functions to help Cellcard visualize, automate, and optimize its broadband services. By using Nokia's Lightspan access nodes, Cellcard will create a network ready for future upgrades to 25G PON, meeting the increasing demand for more capacity.

Asitha De Costa, ICT Division CIO at Cellcard, stated, “We are committed to providing our customers with the best network experience, especially as data usage grows and digital infrastructure becomes more essential for work and personal activities. We are excited to work with Nokia for the first time in our fiber network sector to enhance our subscribers' broadband experience. This new network will allow users to enjoy high-bandwidth applications like gaming while improving efficiency through automation.”

Ajay Sharma, Head of South-East Asia North Sales, Network Infrastructure, at Nokia, also commented,
“We are dedicated to helping service providers worldwide transition to XGS-PON and automation to meet the increasing demand for 10 Gbps services and improve network efficiency.”

“Our proven Lightspan and Altiplano solutions will assist Cellcard in modernizing its fiber broadband network, reducing power consumption, and lowering carbon emissions. This project strengthens our longstanding partnership with Cellcard,” he concluded.
