Strengthening Cloud Infrastructure
Tencent Cloud is taking steps to strengthen cloud infrastructure in Indonesia by establishing a third Internet Data Center (IDC) in the country. This initiative is part of a new commitment totaling around USD 500 million in infrastructure, resources, and investments in Indonesia by 2030. The goal is to empower local businesses with advanced cloud and AI solutions that will drive the digital economy and AI adoption.
Alibaba Cloud—the first major cloud service provider to develop local cloud infrastructure in Indonesia—currently operates three data centers in the country. The company has partnered with local institutions to train nearly 400,000 individuals on cloud computing and AI. Alibaba Cloud plans to double this number to 800,000 by 2033 and will establish a Skills Centre at Universitas Indonesia to provide specialized training as part of its Alibaba Cloud Academic Empowerment Program (AAEP).
The commitments from Tencent Cloud and Alibaba Cloud are based on their extensive cloud services contracts with GoTo, the largest digital ecosystem in Indonesia. These contracts, announced in September 2024, ensure that GoTo's data remains in Indonesia, supporting data sovereignty and enhancing data security for Indonesian users and businesses.
