Revenue from multiplay services in India is anticipated to experience a steady increase, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.5% forecasted between 2023 and 2028.
This increase is due to the rising trend whereby households are choosing multiplay service packages which bundle various telecommunications and media services into a single offering. This trend is largely driven by significant improvements in the country's fixed network infrastructure, which have made it easier and more attractive for consumers to adopt these comprehensive service packages.
As the fixed network infrastructure continues to advance, more households are likely to opt for multiplay services, further fueling this growth.

A Robust Infrastructure for Growth
GlobalData's India Multiplay Forecast report for Q1 2024 indicates that doubleplay service packages dominated the market, constituting 80.9% of total multiplay households in 2023, followed by tripleplay at 10.2% and quadplay bundles at 8.9%.
Notably, doubleplay bundles are projected to remain the preferred choice among consumers in India throughout the forecast period. Major operators like Airtel, Jio, and BSNL are actively promoting unlimited telephony services alongside their fiber broadband plans, contributing to the popularity of doubleplay bundles.
Pradeepthi Kantipudi, a Telecom Analyst at GlobalData, highlighted the positive impact of ongoing investments in expanding the fiber-optic network in India. These investments have facilitated greater access to high-quality broadband services for a wider customer base, thereby enabling telecom service providers to introduce and promote multiplay bundles.
Strategic Implementations
Kantipudi noted that operators in India are leveraging various strategies such as discounts and are integrating value-added services (including access to OTT applications) within their multiplay bundles. These initiatives aim to attract more subscribers to their services and fostering customer loyalty.
“Reliance Jio was the market leader in terms of number of multiplay households in 2023, followed by Bharti Airtel. All the major service providers in India have been promoting complementary access to OTT applications to promote the adoption of multiplay bundles. Jio, for instance, is offering JioFiber postpaid plans of around INR 599 (USD 7)/month for one year at 30 Mbps speed with access to 800+ TV channels and OTT subscriptions such as DisneyHotstar, SonyLIV, ZEE5, ALT Balaji (ALTT), eros now and JioCinema, among others.”
