The GSMA's Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2023 has come to an end following three days of fruitful discussions, networking and collaboration. This year's event reached a new attendance record with approximately 37,000 people from 115 countries and territories, including politicians, industry leaders and members of the mobile ecosystem.

Huawei took center stage by highlighting its achievements in the field of 5.5G technology and      underlining its ability to determine the future of mobile networks. For the past four years, 5G has been commercially available worldwide, enabling new value creation; it is now time for 5.5G to take its place      in the limelight.

The concept of the “5.5G Era” created a buzz with its end-to-end solution that incorporates advanced technologies such as 5.5G, F5.5G and Net5.5G. With its 10-gigabit peak downlink and gigabit peak uplink speeds, this new age seeks to address different service requirements while providing a significant tenfold gain in network performance.

Huawei plans to release a full set of commercial 5.5G network equipment in 2024, ushering in the 5.5G era for the ICT industry. The company has been actively engaging with numerous industry partners to enhance 5.5G research and development and has made significant progress in terms of verification of essential technologies such as vast antenna arrays (ELAA), flexible spectrum access for gigabit uplink and passive IoT for enabling massive IoT connections.

While discussions regarding the future sixth-generation (6G) mobile system have already begun, technology leaders believe that the industry is still in the early phases of defining a vision for 6G. As a result, many people see the 5.5G milestone as a critical step forward in network development. 5.5G's tenfold increase in network capacity will help numerous industries unleash the productivity of digital technologies.
