Globe Telecoms announced it has finished the deployment of the latest range of new-generation antennas to further advance 4G and 5G technologies.
The move by the Philippines’ major telecoms provider is seen as a first of its kind in the world.
The company said in a statement that this technology breakthrough is an important step to boost its 4G and 5G rollouts. The antenna enables improved multi-array modules, ultra-high integration architecture, and full-band technology.
Globe’s senior Vice President, Joel Agustin, stresses the new technology’s role in developing the different generations of cellular technologies, including reducing environmental impact, and a faster deployment of 5G infrastructure, among others. “4G/5G deployment is accelerating and usage is continuously growing. The antenna is important for a network to have greater capacity, accelerate site deployment, have broader and deeper coverage, and achieve a low carbon footprint.”
Among the benefits that it delivers is the reduced feed loss, while it also enhances energy efficiency by 10% to 15%, which therefore allows less electricity consumption through antenna development and power consumption innovation.
It also added that its ultra-resolution beam technology enables high-power beamforming for more advanced Multiple-Input Multiple-Output performance, as well as additional network capacity of 15%.
Agustin, who’s also the Head of Network Planning and Engineering at Globe’s Network Technical Group, added, “Globe is innovating with its vendor partners on the latest technologies available to improve customer experience through efficient 4G/5G network deployment.”
Globe said that this development is part of its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which underscores the value of infrastructure and innovation as key drivers of economic growth and development.
