ZTE has suffered fresh woe just hours after it disclosed details of its settlement with the US government in which it was found guilty of breaching US export control rules in North Korea and Iran from 2010 - 2016. The Chinese vendor released its forecasted loss for 2016 - and it makes grim reading for stakeholders - ZTE have forecast a loss of $343m for 2016.

India's largest telecommunications company has stated its plans to abolish national roaming charges. Chairman of Bharti Airtel, Sunil Bharti Mittal made the announcement at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Mittal is also the chairman of the GSMA and during his address he also called for a cessation of international roaming charges. Bharti Airtel scrapped domestic roaming charges and also suspended charges on incoming calls, text messages and data services - in addition to this no premium will be charged on outgoing calls from April 1st - as part of Airtel's radical overhaul of its services and policies.

Chinese telecom giants ZTE have received the largest criminal penalty in US history in relation to an export control case - following its admission that it violated the terms and conditions of US export controls in selling goods to both Iran and North Korea. ZTE pleaded guilty to the charges and the organization will immediately pay $892m - while another $300m in penalties will be suspended for a period of seven years. Some of the charges against ZTE included obstructing justice for hiding information from government investigators. The settlement reached between ZTE and US authorities is subject to court approval.

ZTE, a leading Chinese global mobile device maker unveiled its ‘Gigabit Phone’ at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The company boasted that its device is the first smartphone in the world that has download speeds of up to 1Gbps.

During its participation at the world's biggest ICT show, Huawei hosted its Global Digital Transformation Forum (GDTF), which saw keynote speeches and address from Huawei officials and a host of industry players from around the world.

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, ZTE, and China Mobile announced plans to conduct interoperability testing and over-the-air field trials based on the 5G New Radio (NR) specifications being developed by 3GPP.

Bharti Airtel, India's largest telecoms services provider, and Viavi Solutions announced at MWC 2017 that they have jointly conducted measurement and analysis of 4G and 3G smartphone performance-representing over 8,000 smartphone models-crowd-sourced using a big data approach from the live Airtel network, with help of location intelligence platform.
