PCCW Global, the international operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, was announced as the winner of the Communications Association of Hong Kong’s (CAHK) Awards in the “Best International Carrier” and “Digital Transformation” categories at the organisation’s 36th Anniversary Gala Dinner and STAR Award presentation which was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.
The CAHK represents Hong Kong's communications industries, with members spread across the broadcasting, wireline and wireless communications and other information communications technology (ICT) business sectors. The annual CAHK awards provide recognition and reward excellence among members in their respective categories.
PCCW Global’s “Best International Carrier” submission highlighted the company’s mission to provide customers with international connectivity into the Southeast Asia, Asia-Pacific, Europe and African regions, as well as to serve international growth markets and particularly those in remote locations – delivering solutions that facilitate digital transformation worldwide. PCCW Global’s own network points of presence (PoPs) now span 109 countries, connectivity which is complemented by an additional 188 worldwide wholesale partners, in order to provide truly global, scalable, reliable and cost-effective services – including ultralow latency routes for the financial services sector.
Focusing on PCCW Global's innovation and creativity, the company’s submission also includes the 12,000km-long Pakistan & East Africa Connecting Europe (PEACE) cable system, which will connect three of the largest and most populous continents in the world – Asia, Africa and Europe. The PEACE system will soon provide the shortest and most direct data route from Asia to Europe, combined with exceptionally low latency which is vitally important for a wide array of financial, commercial and consumer applications.
The winning submission for the “Digital Transformation” award highlighted the world’s first platform for Software-Defined Interconnection®, Console Connect by PCCW Global. The Console Connect platform is a game-changer for business – making the process of connecting to cloud-based, business-critical applications and geographically distributed offices, partners and clients simple, predictable and secure. Console Connect enables users with minimal technical ability to quickly spin up virtual private connections, bypass the unpredictable public Internet and directly connect to their cloud applications, partners and business locations. This new level of speed and agility can be achieved via a simple, easy-to-use web portal with a few clicks, or can be integrated directly into enterprise applications via an API.
Commenting on PCCW Global’s “Digital Transformation” submission, CAHK submission adjudicator, Mr. Edmund Mak, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bossini International Holdings Limited, said, “There is clearly an increasing adoption of third platform technologies and innovation accelerators as enterprises race to transform for the future. The winning project mirrors this trend with inclusion of PCCW Global’s Console Connect platform to achieve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.”
Commenting on PCCW Global’s “Best International Carrier” submission, CAHK submission adjudicator, Mr. Michael Leung, CEO, BOA International Financial Group of Bossini International Holdings Limited and FinTech Committee Chair of Hong Kong Institute of Bankers, said, “Amongst the major carriers operating out of Hong Kong, PCCW Global stands out as the most innovative and progressive, with its global services spanning 109 countries and delivering solutions such as their Console Connect platform that facilitate digital transformation worldwide.
