Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM”) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (“MoA”) with Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd (“Huawei Malaysia”), sealing a collaboration that will see further expansion of its Cloud services offered by its enterprise and public sector business arm, TM ONE. With this signing, TM Cloud α [Cloud Alpha] services is set to enable next-generation innovation for its customers.

Signing on behalf of TM was Ahmad Taufek Omar, executive vice president and chief executive officer, TM ONE and Mohd Roslan Mohd Rashidi, vice president of sales, TM ONE; while Huawei Malaysia was represented by Zac Chow, vice president of carrier network business group, Huawei Malaysia and Lim Chee Siong, vice president and cloud & AI, Huawei Malaysia. The signing was witnessed by YB Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin, deputy minister of communications and multimedia, accompanied by Dato’ Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, group chief executive officer, TM and Michael Yuan, chief executive officer, Huawei Malaysia.

Commenting on the collaboration, Dato’ Noor Kamarul, group chief executive officer, TM said, “As the national telecommunications infrastructure provider of Malaysia’s Digital Nation aspirations, we are excited to be working with Huawei Malaysia to accelerate our digital services and solutions offering to the nation and strengthens our position as the nation’s Cloud Infrastructure Provider. I’m pleased to note that TM is the only local player with its own state-of-the-art core data centres and cloud infrastructure with full data residency, locality and sovereignty in Malaysia and subjected to regulations in Malaysia. With these digital infrastructure and services, we can offer a complete data residency and locality in Malaysia. Holistically, we are an ideal cloud services provider for the nation and our partnership with global partners such as Huawei is yet another testament of TM’s prominent role as the enabler of Digital Malaysia.” 

Detailing the scope of the partnership, Ahmad Taufek commented, “We are delighted to be working hand-in-hand with Huawei Malaysia, in a collaboration which enables TM ONE to offer an extensive array of cloud computing services under our Cloud Alpha brand. With this partnership, we will be able to offer our customers a whole suite of cloud services, spanning the standard Infrastructure-as-a-Service (“IaaS”), Platform-as-a-Service (“PaaS”) and Software-as-a-Service (“SaaS”), covering Industry Solutions, Enterprise Application Services, Big Data and Internet of Things (“IoT”) solutions and many more. This collaboration will also further strengthen TM ONE’s positioning as the Cloud Infrastructure Provider and Cloud Aggregator in the market and in the country.”

With the MoA, TM ONE’s enterprise and public sector customers, as well as organisations in the SME segment will enjoy the full capabilities of Cloud α solutions. By tapping into HUAWEI CLOUD technology, which provides a powerful computing platform and an easy-to-use development environment, Cloud α service will enable TM ONE’s customers to also enjoy the power of reliable, secure, agile and future-ready cloud platform and services to drive their digital transformation journey.

“This collaboration with Huawei Malaysia is another milestone for TM ONE as we now have full cloud capability as a core offering from TM ONE to capture growth in Malaysia, which is expected to grow at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (“CAGR”) of 27% in the next five (5) years. More smart services and Big Data analytics solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) capabilities can also be introduced to the market, powered by Cloud α. Combining Cloud, Artificial Intelligence, and the most advanced cybersecurity practices and technologies for our Cloud operations, TM ONE is striding strongly forward as the only Malaysian-owned full stack cloud AI infrastructure service provider,” Ahmad Taufek added.

Meanwhile, Michael Yuan said, “We are excited to be able to collaborate with TM as we enter the next level of partnership in cloud and AI opportunities to fast-track digital transformation in Malaysia. Leveraging on TM’s wide network coverage and expertise from Huawei technological innovation, I am confident that we can develop a holistic ICT infrastructure together in line with the government’s move to spur Malaysia’s digital economy growth.”

Earlier in April, TM ONE launched Cloud α, the full stackcloud services comprising IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, Cloud Professional Services and Managed Cloud Services. Cloud α [Cloud Alpha] is the foundation that enables important innovation such as blockchain, chatbot, data analytics and robotic process automation (RPA) to be rolled out, so that the industry players can enhance their service delivery while keeping in compliance with regulatory requirements such as Bank Negara Malaysia’s Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) regulations.
