Semiconductors are a critical building block in today’s 5G-driven digital age. In its second year and since the height of the pandemic in 2020, the ongoing global shortage has adversely affected the inventories of smartphones and IoT devices and impacted revenue for telecom operators.

Cloud computing momentum continues to build in Asia as cloud giants channel more attention toward the fast-growing region. Demonstrating this, Oracle Cloud, Google Cloud and Tencent Cloud successively announced – within a week’s time in August – expansion plans to capture cloud market opportunities in Asia.

As a region, Asia Pacific is poised to become the fast-growing in terms of 5G adoption. Representing two-thirds of the global population, GSMA reports that 5G mobile connections will grow by about 150 million to reach 1,789 million subscribers in 2025. Of which, South Asia will account for the largest growth.
